Wednesday of the 31st Week
Now that the elections are over and we know most of the results, I wonder if Jesus would ever win an election on the platform that he gives us today?
In our Gospel Jesus has had people coming out to listen to him, but now we are told he has a large crowd that is following him as he travels. Jesus wants these people to make a conscious decision about him, so he gives them the platform that he is running on. Jesus says, “Hate your family, carry your cross, and give up on your possessions.” Would he win an election on that platform?
The platform that Jesus is running on is very demanding, and perhaps hard to understand. Let’s try and understand what Jesus is saying? What Jesus is saying is the hating another is not about rejecting another but to reorder our relationships! There can be no relationship above our relationship with Jesus Christ. If we truly loved God as we should then our relationship with our spouse, our children, our friends, and our loved ones will be radically different.
Once again our Responsorial Psalm gives us help in doing what Jesus wants of us as the psalmist says, “The Lord is my light and my salvation.”
Would Jesus win the election, only if we change our lives and live for him!
